Audrey Fondecave covers Tokyo-based photographer and filmmaker Anders Edström, and invites us to watch his latest film, The Anchorage, screening in Tokyo on February 22 and 24.

Anders Edström is a Swedish photographer and filmmaker who lives in Tokyo. He has been working in the fashion field with Maison Martin Margiela, Ann Sofie Back, Cosmic Wonder, and others, as well as through magazines like Purple, Self Service, and Dune. Some of his books have been published by Steidl and his newest book, Safari, has just been released by Nieves.
You can also find a profile on him in A Blog for A Magazine curated by Maison Martin Margiela.
His photograhy work has been shown in galleries in Japan, Sweden, and Europe. It’s difficult to describe his work, but his aesthetic of light is so precious — simple subjects reflect a sort of divination.
In term of filmmaking, Edström co-released with writer C.W. Winter an electrifying documentary on experimental music composer Derek Bailey, ONE PLUS ONE 2 (2003). They have just co-released The Anchorage, a gem that won the Golden Leopard Filmmakers of the Present prize (Best Film) at the Locarno International Film Festival.
And after screenings in Sweden and in Paris, The Anchorage will be screened at the Yebisu International Festival for Art and Alternative Visions on the 22nd and 24th of February — some of his photographic work will also be presented.
