Last year’s October issue of the UK edition of Wired magazine had a piece covering designer QR codes and the people who make them, with Greg McMaster’s SET Japan featured front and center.
In the original article, Wired attempted to create a QR code of its own, but SET soon stepped in to offer its take.
They were also unimpressed by Wired’s attempt to generate a QR code, and so decided to design us a better one, sending over three options: one with a rat in a maze, one that took our Pacman idea and improved on it, and one with red balls dropping out of the code. “The designers looked at Wired’s aesthetic and came up with these,” says McMaster. “We wanted to give you a couple of things that matched the cutting-edge nature of Wired, something that people hadn’t seen before.”
The results (two of which are pictured) were then posted on Wired’s blog, with a request for readers to vote for their favorite. The SNOW vote goes to the Pac-Man inspired code, no doubt about it.
