Graniph + SNOW Magazine

SNOW Magazine is very happy to announce that it is teaming up with Tokyo-based design t-shirt label Graniph to not only give away a few t-shirts, but to also enlist your help in future design collaborations.

Every month I will be selecting five of my favorite tee designs from the previous month’s releases, to give away to SNOW Magazine readers. We will be giving away two t-shirts for each design, one “Medium” and one “Large.”

Pictured are this month’s selections, with the title for each and links to Graniph’s online shop.

How do you enter the contest to win one? It’s easy, all you need to do is introduce us to an artist (illustrator/designer) you would like to see work with Graniph. The company is always on the lookout for new artists to work with, and so all recommendations will be presented to the Graniph design panel, with the idea to work with one of the artists on a future Graniph release.

You can enter by either leaving a comment here, through Twitter at the following addresses (@jeansnow, @snow_mag, and @graniph_updates), or by email. Each month, the contest will run for three weeks with the draw happening at the end, which is when we’ll get in touch to let you know you won (and ask for your t-shirt request and size).

Please note that the contest is open to everyone (not limited to Japan), and that artist recommendations from all over the world are welcomed as well.

UPDATE: The contest for this month is now over, and winners will be contacted within the week. The next contest will kick off in just over a week.

R.I.P. Shibuya HMV

On August 22, music store Shibuya HMV shut down operations. Surely it’s never good to see a large-scale culture shop smack middle in Tokyo’s central youth shopping district have to close its doors, but the obituaries have focused more upon HMV’s historical role than the possible contemporary impact of its disappearance. Mainichi called it the “holy ground” for the ’90s epoch-making music genre Shibuya-kei. As we will see, this is only partly true.
